Greetings All:
RE: A Gratitude of Thanks
Thank you for joining and supporting us today at our first in-person fundraiser. This event was a fulfilling moment that we will carry forward as we prepare for the future. The theme of today—Grief: The Shadow of Mental Illness—allowed us to look deeper into how grief and mental health challenges intertwine and affect our lives. These experiences deserve to be spoken about openly, not hidden away, and today’s event allowed us to do just that.
Today was an awakening of why the Creator spared my life—and brought me through the darkness. If you know my story, you know I’m familiar with grief (coupled with the many losses) and its crippling effects of mental illness. No parent should ever have to bury their child. And when we do, the broken never mends. We never get over it; we come to learn how to get through it.
Who said life was fair? It’s full of ups and downs, and we must learn to ride the waves. But today, it was all well worth the journey because I was overjoyed with the messages and the sound of music playing. I simply could not hold back the tears—tears of joy. Those tears reminded me of the importance of this journey, and how vital it is for us to open up, continue sharing, and support one another through these difficult and trying times.
I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the powerful presence of our speakers. Each of you showed up with a profound sense of authenticity, grace, and courage. Your presentations weren’t just words—reflections of your journeys, filled with insights that deeply resonated with everyone. You illuminated the path for others, offering us the tools and strength needed to navigate the struggles. The vulnerability and wisdom shared were invaluable, and I cannot thank you enough for touching our hearts.
To those who shared from the audience, your willingness to speak about your journeys reminded us all that healing is a shared process. The energy in the room was oh-so-powerful, and I was overwhelmed by how it resonated with everyone present. Marvelous Marissa, don’t allow anyone to stop from what you do. You are changing lives and making a difference. And that is the most valuable gift we can give one.
A special thanks to Marissa Daniel, our Mistress of Ceremony. You embodied the spirit of today’s event with so much life and elegance. Your personal story—from being bullied as a young girl to becoming the admired leader you are today—was truly inspiring.
Here’s a huge thank you to Nabensphotography for capturing the essence of today’s event. I eagerly await seeing how the memories have been immortalized through your lens. You’ve given us something to hold onto for years to come.
To Thompson Platter Party, our caterer, the food was scrumptiously delicious. It nourished not only the bodies but added to the warmth and spirit of the day. Thank you for your incredible contribution.
I also want to thank the Target volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. From setup to running tables, greeting guests, and working the Hugging Booth, there was no task too big or small for you. Your presence and dedication were invaluable, and we are deeply grateful for your service and commitment.
We are also deeply grateful for the valuable donation from Chick-fil-A. The gift coupons, delicious cookies, and yummy brownies were a real treat to be remembered. Chick-fil-A was in-house and added an extra taste to the menu and swag bags. Thank you for your generous support.
To the board members, near and far, there is no way I could walk this journey without the support, dedication, and commitment you pour into the mission. You got this, and for that, I am deeply grateful to know each of you. Your love for others doesn’t go unnoticed. Thank you all for another job well done!
Here I am, sitting inside my space, reflecting on the afternoon, I am still engulfed by the warmth of the hugs shared at the hugging booth. There’s something deeply soothing about a heartfelt hug, and today it was a beautiful reminder that none of us should face grief, mental illness, or life’s hardships alone.
While today’s event has come and gone, our fundraising efforts continue. The Silent Auction remains open until Saturday, October 5, 2024. Please visit here to participate, and don’t forget to grab a “Free Vacation Voucher” while browsing. Every bid and donation helps us fund our mental illness and grief programs.
Looking ahead, I hope you’ll join us for next year’s event, where we will explore the themes of Addiction and Domestic Violence. These critical conversations are essential—together, we can make a difference.
As always, we rely on your generosity and support to continue this work. If you haven’t already, please consider donating—no amount is too small. You can give today by visiting here.
To those who have already given, thank you. Your support enables us to continue making a world of difference in the lives we serve. This journey is one no one should walk alone, and together, we are stronger.
With deepest gratitude,
Nina Norstrom
